Trump Tears Up TPP: Time For Turnbull To Move On.

On his first day as President of the United States Donald Trump has confirmed again he will withdraw the United States from the TPP.

On the new White House website under the section "Trade Deals Working For All Americans" it says:

"With a lifetime of negotiating experience, the President understands how critical it is to put American workers and businesses first when it comes to trade..... This strategy starts by withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership".

Yesterday new White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer also confirmed that withdrawing from the TPP would be one of the first Executive Orders issued by President Trump (Sean Spicer, Donald Trump’s Press Secretary, Press Conference 20 January 2017

Without the United States the TPP cannot come into effect. There is no TPP without the United States.

That means, whether we like it or not, the TPP is dead.

Malcolm Turnbull has announced that his big economic plan for 2017 is to pass legislation to implement the TPP.

Donald Trump's decision means this legislation would have no effect at all.

Malcolm Turnbull has insisted all week that he can change Donald Trump's mind. It's time he got the hint: he can't.

It’s time for Malcolm Turnbull to stop wasting everyone’s time.

At a time when at a time when the country needs real economic leadership, Malcolm Turnbull should be focused on finalising other trade deals that will create real jobs, not wasting the Parliament’s time on a stunt.
