LABOR LISTENS TO GET MACKAY BACK TO WORK
Labor will work with local business and community leaders and experts to get the Mackay region back to work.
Shadow Minister for Northern Australia Jason Clare and Senator for Queensland Anthony Chisholm will today hold a Getting the North Back to Work Jobs Forum in Mackay.
Mackay was one of the places hit hard by the Cyclone Debbie. It’s also been hit hard by changes in the economy.
Unemployment is up and wages and house prices are down.
Local house prices have fallen by up to 20 per cent in some parts of the region.
Dictating from Canberra won’t get the job done. It hasn’t worked in the past and it won’t work now.
The experts we need to talk to are in Mackay. The people of Mackay are its greatest assets.
That’s why Labor will work with business and community leaders to develop tailored plans to get people back to work across Northern and Central Queensland.
Listening to the people of Northern and Central Queensland is the first step.
Labor will use the results of the Forums to develop a tailored jobs plan for the Mackay region – to get people back to work.
