There is now no doubt – Turnbull is choosing to make energy prices higher by listening to right-wing conservatives instead of the smartest scientist in the country.
Yesterday the following people all reiterated the case for a Clean Energy Target:
- Chief Scientist, Dr Alan Finkel
- Australian Industry Group CEO Innes Willox
- Managing Director of AGL Andy Vesey
- Australian Energy Market Operator chief Audrey Zibelman
- NSW Energy Minister Don Harwin
- South Australian Premier Jay Wetherill.
Tony Abbott, who overnight declared that “climate change itself is probably doing good”, is bullying Malcolm Turnbull into doing nothing.
There was a time when this country was run from London, now it looks like it’s happening again.
The Finkel report was clear – doing nothing is the most expensive option. Power prices will go up and up and up because of Malcolm Turnbull’s weakness.
The falling price of renewables is not the reason Turnbull has chosen to abandon the CET. The reason is that he has lost control of a divided party – and Australians are paying the price.
Abandoning the CET will result in higher electricity bills for Australian households and businesses, rising pollution and will jeopardise energy security and Turnbull knows it.
It is within his power to do something about it – he is choosing not to.
