TURNBULL’S BUDGET IS FOR THE TOP END OF TOWN – NOT GLADSTONE

Turnbull and the LNP’s Budget has prioritised tax cuts for the top end of town instead of funding for Gladstone’s local schools and hospitals.

Turnbull’s Budget gives the big banks and big business an $80 billion tax cut and at the same time cuts $17.5 million from local schools and $2.51 million from local hospitals.

This just proves how out of touch Turnbull and the LNP are.

This is a Budget for the top end of town – not Gladstone.

They have failed to put a single dollar in the big projects Gladstone needs:

  1. The next stage of the Gladstone Port Access Road, and
  2. Rookwood Weir.

In fact Gladstone wasn’t even mentioned once in the Budget speech.

There is also still no money allocated from the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility, that was announced three years ago this month, and has still not allocated a cent to Central Queensland.

In contrast, Bill Shorten and Labor will reverse funding cuts for schools, invest in local hospitals and build job-generating infrastructure for Gladstone, like:

  • $100 million  for the next stage of the Gladstone Port Access Road, and
  • $176 million for the Rookwood weir.

Only Bill Shorten, Zac Beers and Labor will stand up and deliver Gladstone a fair go. We’ll do this by protecting penalty rates and local jobs, protecting Medicare and schools, keeping taxes lower for ordinary people, and by building a strong economy that delivers for all.
