RELEASE OF RESOURCES 2030 TASKFORCE REPORT
Labor notes the release of the Resources 2030 Taskforce Report examining the future of Australia’s resource industry.
Australia’s resource industry is a critical part of our economy and it will be for a long time to come.
Labor supports Australian mining and gas workers and we support a strong Australian resources industry.
Australian resources account for more than half of our total exports, and four out of five of our top exports.
There are big opportunities in the future – including in resources like lithium and rare earth minerals used in batteries and mobile phones.
There are also big challenges for Australia’s resources industry – including a decline in the number of students enrolling in mining engineering degrees and in the number of skilled workers and apprentices entering the industry.
Labor thanks the members of the Resources 2030 Taskforce, the Department and those who made submissions and participated in consultation for their effort.
Labor will now consider the recommendations.
