Half court is a hit. Where else do you want one?

Federal Member for Blaxland Jason Clare and Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor, Councillor Khal Asfour today checked out the new basketball half-court at Carysfield Park in Bass Hill.

The half-court was funded by the Council and Jason Clare’s Stronger Communities Fund.

“This half court is a real hit. It gets used a lot and people have told me they want more in the local area. If you know a park where we should put another one let me know.”

Mayor Khal Asfour said this is a great example of federal and local governments working together to deliver real benefits to the community.

“When creating our Community Strategic Plan, CBCity 2028, residents told us they wanted Canterbury-Bankstown to be a city that’s healthy and active, with accessible parks and open spaces that cater to all ages and cultures.”

“Our investment in Carysfield Park, as well as other local sporting grounds and facilities, is part of our commitment to help make this aspiration a reality – and we’re not done yet.”

Round 5 of Jason Clare’s Stronger Communities Programme is now open.

The Stronger Communities Programme provides grants, between $5,000 and $20,000, to not-for-profit organisations for small capital works projects that improve our local community.

To be eligible for a SCP grant, all projects require matched contributions, in cash or in kind.

Mr Clare said “I encourage all sporting and community groups in our local area to apply for funding under this program.”

Over the past four years, the Blaxland Consultation Committee has approved a total of 54 projects, with $588,925 worth of grants being contributed to projects of local community groups.

“Expressions of Interest for the next round of funding are now open. For more information please contact my office on 02 9790 2466,” said Mr Clare.
