Shadow Minister for Communications Jason Clare and Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters today met with local residents who will miss out on the real NBN and will have to rely on a second rate old copper system.
In another example of twisted priorities, Tony Abbott has pulled the plug on homes and businesses right across the Bendigo region.
Before the last election Tony Abbott deceived the people of Bendigo.
"This time last year Tony Abbott promised that all Bendigo residents would have access to the NBN by 2016. That's now not going to happen. Just before Christmas the Liberal Government broke that promise," Mr Clare said.
"Tony Abbott is creating two classes of people in Bendigo - those that will get the real NBN and those that won't," Ms Chesters said.
"Under Labor more than 34,000 homes and businesses in Bendigo would have received super-fast fibre all the way to their premises. Now most will have rely on the second rate slower copper system." Mr Clare said.
"Tony Abbott is creating a digital divide in Bendigo - some people will have fibre all the way to their homes whilst others will be forced to make do with the Coalition's second rate fibre-to-the-node model - and it simply isn't good enough," Ms Chesters said.
