The Morrison Government promised four months ago that the HomeBuilder Scheme would benefit 27,000 families.
Half-way through the application timeframe, less than a quarter of that number have applied and less than one per cent have been paid a cent.
The Government has talked a big game about the HomeBuilder Scheme:
The Prime Minister, 26 September 2020
Minister for Housing Michael Sukkar, 14 July 2020
- “The phones have been ringing really madly since the announcement. People have been speaking with their feet”
Minister for Housing Michael Sukkar, 18 June 2020
This Government is great at slogans, great at spin but hopeless at delivery.
The facts don’t lie.
Only 123 families have received the $25,000 grant and just 6,335 applications have been lodged.
This is proof that the HomeBuilder Scheme is too small and rolling out too slowly.
This follows Minister Sukkar’s hyped up claim that the scheme “will keep hundreds of thousands of tradies in a job”. Last month Treasury corrected the number, revealing HomeBuilder was likely to support less than 10,000 jobs.
The Government has made an artform of big promises and poor delivery.
They need to hurry up and fix their bungled HomeBuilder Scheme.
