MORRISON GOVERNMENT BACKFLIPS ON FUNDING CUTS TO HOMELESSNESS SERVICES

The Morrison Government’s decision today to stop its $57 million cut to specialist homelessness services and pay its fair share of the sector’s wages should have happened months ago.

The Government has fixed a problem of its own making and is now seeking a pat on the back.

You don’t get a round of applause for a backflip.

Homelessness services and women’s refuges have been crying out for more support as they struggle to keep up with demand.

They will be relieved to hear that they are no longer facing this funding cliff.

The Government should now commit to reversing its other $130m cut to family violence services. Organisations should be able to concentrate on helping vulnerable Australians rather than worrying about how to keep paying their staff.
